Introduction to Health Records and Information Management Professionals
- Who are also known as medical records Professionals; organize paper and digital records that they receive from doctors, diagnostic labs or from patients filling out forms.
- Plan information systems, develop health policy, and identify current and future information needs.
- In addition, they may apply the science of informatics to the collection, storage, analysis, use, and transmission of information to meet legal, professional, ethical and administrative records-keeping requirements of health care
- Health information managers have been described to “play a critical role in the delivery of healthcare through their focus on the collection, maintenance and use of quality data to support the information-intensive and information-reliant healthcare system.
OBJECTIVES
The major aim and objective of the Association is to organize Health Records and Information Technicians into a Registered Professional Association for the purpose of:
- Promote the development and practice of health information management (HIM) in Tanzania
- Advance the development and use of international HIM standards.
- Provide for the exchange of information on HIM education requirements and training programs national and international.
- Provide opportunities for education and communication between persons working in the field of HIM in Tanzania
- Promote the appropriate and effective use of technology and the electronic health record.
- To promote the general welfare of staff employed in Health Records keeping and the discussion and study of matters affecting their duties or responsibilities.
- Represent and promote the views of the association on local, national, regional, and international levels.
- Stimulate interest and pride in the Health Record & information management profession and encourage spirit of unity and service among Health information professional throughout Tanzania.
- Develop and promote ethical practices for Health information management professional in Tanzania
- Advocate for Health information management rights and enabling environment for all HIM professionals.
- Promoting standards of HIM practicing.
- Promote collaborative relationship with other groups in Tanzania that affect healthcare
- Play an active role in issues related to HIM employment conditions.
- Represent and speak for HIM profession in Tanzania.
